Experience rural British Columbia at its best!
You'll be "amazed" by all there is to do, to
see, to learn and to experience on BC farms! Get lost in a maze, cook up
a storm, sample local delicacies, take a tour in a horse-drawn wagon, and
harvest your own fruit. Activities and attractions abound for all ages
and interests. For a list of on-farm activities and more information click
on the links on the right.
Farms to visit
Who ever said life on a farm was all work and no play?
BC farms are putting that myth to rest once and for all by offering a wide
range of seasonal activities including hay rides, sleigh rides, corn mazes,
horseback riding, kid's days, haunted houses, barn dances and more. Farmers
keep finding new ways to give visitors a fun-filled day on the farm.
Food and wine
Wineries, on-farm restaurants and bakeries, cheese-makers,
and tea houses tempt the palate and the senses. For a delicious day in
the country, visit a local cheese-maker, select a bottle of wine from a
nearby winery, and enjoy under an apple tree with a fresh loaf of farm-baked
bread. Look for cooking classes, dinner theatre evenings, wine tasting
events, and food festivals at a farm near you.
Farm stays
Spend the night in an old-fashioned farm house, wake
in the morning to farm-fresh eggs and a home-cooked meal, and wander through
the orchard in the afternoon. Many farms throughout the province now offer
bed and breakfast accommodation, a relaxing and enjoyable way to experience
life on a working farm.
Ranches
A wild-west tradition is alive and well in British Columbia.
Go back in time and experience the excitement and adventure of a real cattle
drive. And check out the festivities and events of a rodeo, an experience
that offers something for everyone. Families, and all ages will thrill
at the dare-devil performances and excitement a rodeo brings to town!
Events
Farms around the province are celebrating harvest-time, holidays
and special occasions, and you are invited to join in the fun! Events range
from Halloween pumpkin fests, to lavender festivals, to kid's days, to culinary
extravaganzas, and everything in between. Take a look to see what's happening
in your own community this weekend!
Farmers' markets
Farmers markets are an opportunity to browse local produce
stands in one convenient location, meet the people that grow and produce your
food face-to-face, and soak up a festive country atmosphere. You will likely
find fresh fruit and vegetables, delicious home-made goodies, flowers, honey,
soap and crafts, as well as a variety of unique local specialties.
